1) Don't be frustrated.
Breastfeeding is hard. It is so much easier said than done. When frustration is about to bound, try not to let it get the best of you. Stress can actually effect your milk supply. So, don't get too stress when breast feed your baby.
2) Get a nipple cream or shield
Before the baby came, my mother joked that I better “toughen up my nipples.” I would laugh hysterically at the sound of that, but she was right. It goes in the column with moms advice that was actually true. So stop questioning your mothers! They went through this too.
3) Try different position
There are so many different positions you can nurse in. Try them all. Changing the position you nurse in helps stimulate different milk ducts around your breast and can relieve fullness in your breast and prevent clogs and mastitis.
4) Ensure baby latches properly
If your baby is latching well, you should feel a pulling or tugging sensation on your breast while he is getting milk. Your baby’s lower jaw should be moving rhythmically, and an occasional stop for breath. Like how you would drink water.
5) Avoid bad food
Your breastfeeding diet should be balanced and include lots of calcium. Take dairy products like milk or yogurt. Obviously, you need to avoid caffeine and alcohol, as it can get into your milk. Drunk babies are not very healthy. If you need any medication, speak to your healthcare professional about it.
Breast milk is one of the best natural source of nutrients for your baby. Babies who are breastfed are less likely to develop certain conditions such as obesity or diabetes. However, if you are having problems producing milk, it is not your fault. Speak to a healthcare professional about alternatives for your baby.
